It was the annual Bazooka Rocks Festival over the weekend, and I’m proud to say I’ve been to all three of them! They switched it up this year and turned it into a two-day event, with older “high school era” bands playing on the first day, and younger bands playing on the second.

The audience was so different from day one to day two that it was kind of funny. Taking Back Sunday and The Used headlined day one, so the venue was packed with twenty-somethings reliving their “emo” days. Bands like The Summer Set and We Are The In Crowd played day two, so there were a lot of teenagers in the audience. I’m somewhere in the middle of those two, so I really enjoyed both days of the festival.

Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday and Bert McCracken of The Used are such badass frontmen. Getting a crowd fired up is a skill that some musicians do better than others, and these two are some of the best that I’ve seen.

Three of the bands who played the second day also played Warped Tour, but I was still so excited to see them again. The Summer Set played the best setlist I could’ve asked for and I’m still stoked about it. Their most recent release, Legendary, was pretty much the soundtrack of my summer last year, and getting to hear the title track live was special to me.

You Me At Six was the headliner that day, and those guys stole the show. I’ve given their albums a few listens, but I never really got into them before last night. THEY. ARE. SO. GOOD. LIVE. They certainly got a new fan in me after seeing them. I’m definitely gonna give Cavalier Youth another try.
